About Me
Hi, I'm Aeg!
I'm a self-taught artist and ecologist from Texas. I've been drawing since I was young, starting out with prehistoric animals and dragons and working my way through drawing anthros and humans. I really want to start drawing animals again though, especially non-charismatic invertebrates!
I draw using a hand-me-down 12.9" iPad Pro, 2nd Gen Apple Pen, and Clip Studio Paint. On my desktop, I sometimes do pixel work with Photoshop CS6 (despite owning Asperite! Old habits die hard I guess).
Nowadays I mostly draw my selfships, TTRPG characters, and sometimes random anthro character designs. Until my gallery page is up, my art can be found on Bluesky (@aegann) or on Tumblr (@aegann).

My focus in ecology is on freshwater systems and on both aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates. I also have a soft spot for both endo- and exo- parasites, though specializing in those ecologically is quite a challenge. Some of my favorite taxa include Hymenoptera (Vespidae, Ichneumonidae, Braconidae, Sphecidae, etc.), Diptera (Tachinidae, Oesteridae, Syprhidae, Culicidae, Chironomidae, etc.), Strepsiptera, Neuroptera, Trematoda, Hirudinea, and Amblypygi, just to name a few.
Ecology has also gotten me to dip my toes into photography, especially photographing birds and insects. I currently use an old beater Nikon D3400 with a 70-300mm zoom lens. Combined, they cost me about $400 USD from KEH. Oh yeah, and of course I still photograph stuff with my phone using a clip-on macro lens.
I will eventually make some webpages dedicated to all this.

I've never been very interested in online fandom other than watching from afar... mostly because it usually dealt with shipping which I have not been interested in, besides a few exceptions.
However, as a teenager, I got my first crush ever. On a fictional character (I won't say who... lmao) which made me feel confused. Through this I realized that I really like to create fictional relationships with my favorite characters, wether it be through selfshipping or shipping them with an OC unrelated to me.
This isn't to say that I don't still really enjoy meta analysis of stuff that I read or watch! It's just hard to find other like-minded fandom people who want to talk about that stuff... maybe when I have a blog here I will post more meta stuff.
I oftentimes refer to my selfships as OC x canon as well; this isn't because my self-inserts aren't me, but I have developed them to the point that they do have their own character that is recognizable even to someone who doesn't know me personally! I just really like to rotate my self-inserts in my head until they burst out from my forehead fully formed like Athena.
I made a page dedicated to my own selfships here! Also very much a work in progress. Until it's done, more of my selfship works can once again be found on Bluesky (@charophyte) or on Tumblr (@charophyte).
