Website Development Resources
This page has a non-exhaustive list of resources that I used to make my own website. I encourage you to look
around and explore other indie webpages in addition to using these resources.
Some resources may not work on a new/free Neocities account. I'm not sure about other free hosting sites.
Epilepsy warning for the blinky, button, and stamp collection links.Beginner Resources
- This Tumblr post by Maddie, which prompted me to start making my own websites
- I use Visual Studio Code for editing all of my HTML, CSS, and JS. Here is an alternative distro of VS Code without Microsoft telemetry.
- Brackets, another open-source editor built for HTML and CSS
- SadGrl's Webmastery page. I got my layout from here, as well as some graphics
- 32-Bit Cafe Resource Page. It's a lot of resources.
- MelonLand Project, an active site dedicated to web revival. A lot of resources here too
- W3Schools is the HTML and CSS tutorial website (and other coding languages)
- Neocities HTML tutorials, which I did not use personally but are there
- Stack Overflow for when you're truly stumped
- Free website hosting:
CSS, Colors, and Graphics
- blinkies.cafe has a ton of blinkies which also comes with a nifty generator
- Adrian's Blinkie Collection, also has buttons and stamps
- GifCities searches for GIFs on old GeoCities websites
- 88x31 GIF Collection is a large collection of new and old buttons
- The Largest 88x31 GIF Collection. Okay, I guess this one must be larger.
- SadGrl's button maker which makes 88x31px buttons.
- Not a link, but you can search for old stuff to use on Tumblr and DeviantArt. Search for things like blinkies, stamps, buttons, icons, dividers, pagedolls, etc.
- I made my website buttons with Photoshop CS6.🏴☠️
- EGGRAMEN's CSS Test Pages, not something I've personally used (yet) but seems like a good resource if you want to play with layouts
- SadGrl's Layout Builder
- w3schools CSS templates are very bare bones and responsive, if that's what you want
- Ground Floor is a bare-bones but very functional layout package with a few code examples
- Google Fonts, if you want a custom font
- Image Color Picker lets you pick web colors off of an uploaded image. I personally use this one a lot.
